Malott, Hoover on WNBA Draft

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- For the first time in program history, not just one but two University of Dayton women's basketball players have been selected in the 2015 WNBA Draft. Graduating senior Ally Malott was selected as the eighth overall draft pick by the Washington Mystics and graduating senior Andrea Hoover was chosen 31st overall by the Los Angeles Sparks.
This is the first time an Atlantic 10 team has had two players drafted since Xavier in 2011 and Malott is the second-highest drafted Dayton student-athlete ever (John Horan - sixth 1955 NBA Draft).
"We have had the opportunity to see Ally in person 8 or 9 times, as well as watch her practice," said Mystics head coach and general manager Mike Thibault. "In my mind, she is the best definition of the modern "stretch four" in this draft. She is one of the best shooters in the draft at any position. She helps space the floor, can play around the basket and is a very good outlet passer to start the break."

One of the most prolific duos in Dayton history, Hoover and Malott set several new program records, including the most wins over a four-year period with 102 victories over 127 games during their tenure as Flyers. The two helped lead the team to NCAA Tournament appearances all four seasons they wore the Flyer uniform, including Dayton's first appearance in the NCAA Regional Final this season.Malott, Hoover on WNBA Draft

REDS-NATIONALS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Eugenio Suarez hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat Washington 3-2 Monday night to end the Nationals' nine-game home winning streak.

Suarez went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to help the Reds snap a three-game skid and improve to 4-0 against Washington this year, clinching the season series.

With the score knotted at 2, Suarez drove an 0-2 pitch from Casey Janssen (0-2) just inside the left-field foul pole. Recalled from the minors on June 11 after an injury sidelined starting shortstop Zack Cozart, Suarez is batting .329 with three homers and 13 RBIs in 21 games.

Manny Parra (1-1) worked the seventh and Aroldis Chapman got three outs for his 17th save. One of Chapman's fastballs was clocked at 103 mph.

Danny Espinosa homered for the Nationals, who had won 12 of 15 overall and were unbeaten at home since June 18.

ASTROS-INDIANS

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Dallas Keuchel, chosen for the American League All-Star team earlier Monday, allowed three runs in six innings in helping the Houston Astros defeat the Cleveland Indians 9-4.

Keuchel (11-3), who leads the league in wins and is second with a 2.14 ERA, is a strong candidate to start next Tuesday's game in Cincinnati. The left-hander scattered nine hits and struck out eight.

An anticipated pitching duel between Keuchel and Carlos Carrasco never materialized. Carrasco, who came within one out of a no-hitter against Tampa Bay on Wednesday, allowed five runs in four innings. The right-hander (10-7) gave up four runs in the first and Preston Tucker's solo homer in the fourth.

Tucker had a career-high four hits and added an RBI single. Jose Altuve, Houston's All-Star second baseman, matched his career-high 14-game hitting streak with two hits, including an RBI double.

CAVALIERS-MO WILLIAMS

UNDATED (AP) -- Mo Williams is heading back to Cleveland to team up with LeBron James again.

Williams tweeted on Monday night that he is going back to the Cavaliers, where he was an All-Star playing alongside James in 2009. A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press it's for two years and $4.3 million. The person requested anonymity because the deal has not been announced.

Williams started last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves and was traded to the Charlotte Hornets, where he averaged 17.2 points in 27 games.

The Cavaliers were in need of a quality backup point guard with the ability to score behind starter Kyrie Irving.

Williams spent two and a half seasons with the Cavaliers before being traded to the Clippers in 2011.
