BBA-INDIANS-MARINERS

SEATTLE (AP) -- Corey Kluber struck out 13 in seven innings to win his third straight decision, Jason Kipnis continued his hot May with two hits and two RBIs, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Thursday night.

Cleveland won for the eighth time in 10 games, inching closer to .500 after struggling the first six weeks of the season. Kluber, the reigning AL Cy Young winner, improved to 3-0 with 50 strikeouts and two walks in his last four starts.

Kluber (3-5) gave up a pair of home runs to Mike Zunino in the third and Dustin Ackley in the sixth, but Seattle was able to mount little otherwise. Kluber earned his first road victory of the season.

James Paxton (3-3) gave up eight hits and three earned runs before leaving with two outs and a 3-0 count against Brandon Moss in the fifth due to a finger injury.

INDIANS MOVES

SEATTLE (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians have placed right-handed reliever Scott Atchison on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained left ankle.

The Indians made the roster move before opening a four-game series in Seattle on Thursday night. Cleveland will also be without infielder Carlos Santana for at least a few days after he was placed on the paternity list.

Atchison was 1-1 with a 5.74 ERA in 19 relief appearances for the Indians this season. This is his fifth career stint on the disabled list.

To take the open roster spots, the Indians selected the contract of outfielder Jerry Sands and recalled right-hander Austin Adams from Triple-A Columbus. Sands has split the season between Cleveland and Columbus appearing in nine games in April with the Indians.

Adams started the season with Cleveland before being sent down. Adams appeared in three games with the Indians and 10 games at Columbus.

WARRIORS-THOMPSON

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson is feeling better and is on track to return for the NBA Finals next week after taking a knee to his head from Trevor Ariza that caused "concussion-like symptoms."

That's according to Thompson's father, former NBA player Mychal Thompson. He told The Associated Press on Thursday night that his son's energy was up and his appetite was back, but he still needs to pass the league-mandated concussion protocol.

Thompson said his son threw up a couple of times and he had to drive him home after the Warriors eliminated the Houston Rockets in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals on Wednesday night.

The Warriors initially said Thompson did not show any signs of a concussion and could've come back into the game. The team later said he began not feeling well after the game and showed "concussion-like symptoms."
