REDS-CUBS

CHICAGO (AP) -- Joey Votto hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning that was set up by third baseman Kris Bryant's two-out error, lifting the Cincinnati Reds over the Chicago Cubs 7-4 Wednesday.

Bryant hit a two-run homer in the eighth that made it 4-all. The rookie has 22 home runs and 84 RBIs this season.

Cubs closer Hector Rondon (5-3) retired the first two batters in the ninth. Jason Bourgeois, who homered earlier, followed with a single.

Jay Bruce then hit a hard grounder that went through Bryant's legs for an error, and Votto connected for his 27th home run.

J.J. Hoover (7-0) got the win despite allowing Bryant's homer. Aroldis Chapman closed for his 27th save.

Tommy La Stella and Anthony Rizzo hit solo home runs for the Cubs.

INDIANS-BLUE JAYS

TORONTO (AP) -- R.A. Dickey pitched a four-hitter to win his seventh straight decision, Josh Donaldson had three hits and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1 on Wednesday night.

Toronto won for the fifth time in six games, maintaining a 1 1/2-game lead over the New York Yankees, who beat Boston 13-8.

Dickey (10-10) threw 92 pitches, including 68 strikes, in his second complete game of the season and 15th of his career. He's unbeaten in 10 starts, dating to a July 9 road loss against the White Sox.

Dickey set down 14 straight before Jason Kipnis hit a one-out single in the ninth. Francisco Lindor ended it by grounding into a double play.

Donaldson went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, raising his ML-leading total to 111.

Trevor Bauer (10-11) gave up five runs and six hits in 1 1/3 innings.

BROWNS-PRYOR

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Terrelle Pryor may be down to his last chance to make Cleveland's roster.

The former Raiders quarterback trying to switch to wide receiver and prolong his NFL career is expected to finally take the field in an exhibition game on Thursday night when the Browns visit the Chicago Bears. Pryor has been slowed by a hamstring injury for nearly a month, keeping him on the sideline and unable to convince Cleveland's coaches he's worth keeping.

Pryor says he doesn't want to be handed anything, and intends to prove he belongs. Browns coach Mike Pettine has said Pryor's place on the team has not been guaranteed and the Browns are eager to see the gifted 6-foot-4, 225-pounder in action.

Pryor says he doesn't have his usual burst off the line and may have to "play on a leg and a half."

CAVALIERS-SMITH

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cavaliers made the re-signing of guard J.R. Smith official.

Smith announced last month that he was returning for a second year with the Cavs, who acquired him last season along with Iman Shumpert in a trade with the New York Knicks. The 11-year veteran made 45 starts for Cleveland, averaging 12.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

He made four starts in the playoffs and averaged 12.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in helping the Cavs make the NBA Finals.

Smith had some solid postseason games but he wasn't the factor Cleveland needed in the Finals after Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving sustained injuries.

Smith initially opted out of his $6.4 million contract for next season before signing a two-year deal that includes a player option for 2016-17.

Meanwhile, the Cavs remain in a stalemate with forward Tristan Thompson, a restricted free agent.

OHIO STATE-JONES HEADACHE

UNDATED (AP) -- Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones was taken to the hospital because of a headache, his mother told The Toledo Blade.

Florence Jones told the newspaper her son was taken to an emergency room in Columbus, Ohio, and that he should be fine.

Jones is competing with J.T. Barrett to be the top-ranked Buckeyes' starter when they open the season Monday night at Virginia Tech.

Jones took over as Ohio State's starter last year after J.T. Barrett broke his ankle in the regular-season finale against Michigan. Jones helped the Buckeyes beat Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game and Alabama and Oregon in the College Football Playoff to win the national title.

Ohio State had not yet confirmed that Jones was hospitalized.
